You may want to try the following recipe for walnut hearts or crescents:

Ingredients

150g unsalted butter
half cup sugar
2 eggs

half cup walnut meal
grated rind of one lemon (lemon rind optional)
2 cups flour
1 egg white
2 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp walnut meal
half cup small walnut pieces


Recipe

1. Mix together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy

2. Add eggs one at a time and beat in.

3. Stir in the walnut meal, grated lemon rind and flour. Chill if necessary.

4. Roll out into half inch thickness.

5. Cut out either heart or crescent shapes.

6. Mix together the egg white, sugar and one tbsp of walnut meal.

7. Brush the mixture on top of the hearts or crescents.

8. Press the small walnut pieces on top.

9. Bake at 150 degrees centigrade until they are light golden in colour. About 15 to 20 minutes.

10. Place on a cooling tray to cool.

This is a simple and quick recipe. The hearts or crescents are ideal for serving with coffee either after a meal or for morning or afternoon tea. They make a nutritious snack to include in a packed lunch or pic-nic.
